3 Ways to Look Like a Cook (Even When You Suck at It)
Cooking is a skill. A skill that requires great care. A skill that comes naturally to some people. Some people meaning not me. If you’ve tried my cooking, you know that my significant other’s favorite thing I make for dinner is reservations. If you relate, I’ve got three tips to make you look like a cook.
This is an easy way to trick anyone who comes across your food into thinking that you’re an Iron Chef. Seriously, presentation, presentation, presentation. If you’ve seen any cooking show, you know how important this is. Not to say that looks are everything… but, they kinda are.
Here’s what you need to do. Start with a great plate; you are the artist, the plate… your canvas. Create designs with your sauces, place the food carefully on top (keep colors in mind), and throw on a garnish. Make sure to wipe off any unsightly sauce accidents.
2. The Right Apron
If you have an apron on, I don’t see how anyone could argue that you are not a chef. You tie that thing on with confidence, and you start cooking up a storm.
I recommend plain colors. As funny as it is to have “Kiss the Cook” written across your chest, it also screams, “I’m distracting you from the fact I’m not a real chef.”
3. Pics or It Didn’t Happen
Now that you have the presentation down and the right apron on, you had better take a picture. This is an important step. The people on your social media liking the picture won’t actually be tasting your food, which is a huge advantage for you.
The food might not taste the best, but it sure as hell is going to look like it does (as long as you have the perfect Instagram filter).
